Director of Alumnae Experience Title: Director of Alumnae Experience 

 

       Staff Manager: Director of Alumnae Engagement 

     Position Status: Volunteer, two-year appointment  

Position Summary: Responsible for supporting the general alumnae membership needs and engagement opportunities. The director strives to continue connecting members to the organization on both a national and local level. Supervises alumnae and young alumnae experience coordinators. 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Initiated member of Sigma Kappa Sorority 

  • Experience working with undergraduates and/or alumnae and/or life skills that relate to the position summary 

  • Prior experience and/or familiarity with membership engagement 

  • Experience planning virtual activities 

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, customer service skills, organizational and delegation skills, time and project management, attention to detail and interpersonal/relationship building skills 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Works closely with the director of alumnae engagement and alumnae coordinators to strategize connecting with unengaged alumnae of Sigma Kappa 

  • Assists in identifying and executing opportunities for members to connect through events and programs for both in-person and digital experiences 

  • Aligns NHQ staff and other national volunteer teams on curating a connection with members to the organization 

  • Participates in calls with national officers, team members and/or NHQ staff as necessary 

  • With alumnae engagement team, creates and maintains programs to take place on a monthly basis. These include Day of Service and Virtual Founders Day 

 

 Expectations  

  • Consistently demonstrates through words, actions and interactions, alignment with the Sorority’s values, strategic direction and commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and access (DEIA), focusing on the success of the organization  

  • Exhibits a positive, problem-solving mindset and a spirit of teamwork and cooperation   

  • Maintains and develops materials and procedure files as appropriate to the position  

  • Maintains high professional and personal standards  

  • Promotes the ongoing development of a service rapport with collegiate chapters, local and national volunteers, headquarters staff and all members of the Sorority  

  • Maintains positive public relations within the Sorority, among all Sorority entities, other NPC, NPHC, MGC and NIC groups, university officials, vendors and others  

  • Follows national policies and procedures and abides by the local house/suite rules in the case of visiting collegiate chapter facilities 

  • Promotes a sense of national pride in Sigma Kappa and a strong sisterhood in all chapters visited  

  • Attends national convention (even years) and participates in other training(s) offered to national volunteers. Failure to complete required onboarding and training could result in the withholding of a convention allowance or potential removal from position    

  • Required attendance at the Summit for Volunteers (annually)  

  • Per the National Policy Handbook (NPH), all national officers shall pay alumnae dues either to a local alumnae chapter or directly to national headquarters  

  • All national officers are encouraged to make an annual financial contribution and/or planned gift to the Sigma Kappa Foundation, per the National Policy Handbook  

  • Perform other duties as may be prescribed by the director of alumnae engagement of Sigma Kappa Sorority  

  • Foster an environment where members are welcomed, valued for who they are, and everyone is treated with respect. 

 

Technical/Computer Skills:  

  • Ability to effectively use email and Microsoft Office software programs, including a strong understanding of Microsoft Teams and Zoom.  

  • Ability and willingness to effectively use other position-related technology tools   

 

Travel Requirements:   

  • 3-4 days annually, 10% weekdays, 90% weekends  

  • National convention: four days in even years, with travel (responsible for paying convention registration fee)  

 

Optional Travel:   

  • Summit for Collegiate Leadership: three days annually, including travel (if selected as a facilitator, via the application process)  
     

Time Commitment:  

~15-20 hours per month when not traveling: 

  • Participate in quarterly volunteer director calls (one-two hours) and other calls as needed 

  • Participate in regular calls with supervisor and/or national headquarters staff and the alumnae volunteer team 

  • Participate in monthly calls with volunteer team 

 

Volunteer Environment:   

  • This position requires working independently as well as part of a team.   

  • This position requires frequent verbal and face-to-face contact with others. Frequent use of a computer, general office equipment, and/or personal device (e.g., cell phone, tablet) is necessary.   

  • The position requires appropriate confidentiality and discretion.
