Position Status: Volunteer, two-year appointment 

 

Position Summary: The Director of Education leads efforts to modernize the Sigma Kappa member experience through innovative education, training materials and learning opportunities. This role provides oversight and strategic direction for the Education Advisory Council (EAC) and serves as a key collaborator with national headquarters (NHQ) staff, volunteer teams and collegiate chapters to ensure education is engaging, relevant and impactful. This role is ideal for educators, trainers and organization development professionals looking to apply their expertise in curriculum design, facilitation and assessment within a volunteer setting.
 

Qualifications: 

  • Initiated member of Sigma Kappa Sorority 

  • Experience in educational program development, training or organizational development 

  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills 

  • Proven ability to engage and support diverse audiences 

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, customer service skills, organizational and delegation skills, time and project management, attention to detail and interpersonal and relationship building skills 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Leads the EAC to ensure members receive relevant and effective educational support

  • Curriculum and content development 

  • Development of special projects that align with strategic initiatives of the sorority 

  • Chapter and member educational support 

  • Collaborates with NHQ programming and training staff to assess collegiate trends, prioritize educational needs and implement solutions 

  • Oversees and tracks chapter training requests, assigning work to EAC subject matter experts and evaluating effectiveness

  • Facilitates regular communication with NHQ staff, volunteers and collegiate stakeholders to align educational initiatives

  • Evaluates and enhances educational content, ensuring materials remain engaging, up-to-date and responsive to member needs

  • Manages EAC operations, including monthly calls, project oversight and reporting on impact and outcomes

  • Exhibits a positive, problem-solving mindset and a spirit of teamwork and cooperation 

  • Maintains and develops materials and procedure files as appropriate to the position 

  • Maintains high professional and personal standards 

  • Promotes the ongoing development of a service rapport with collegiate chapters, local and national volunteers, headquarters staff and all members of the Sorority 

  • Maintains positive public relations within the Sorority, among all Sorority entities, in contact with other NPC, NPHC, MGC and NIC groups, university officials, vendors and others 

  • Follows national policies and procedures and abide by the local house/suite rules of each chapter during visits 

  • Promotes a sense of national pride in Sigma Kappa  

  • Attends national convention (even years) and participates in other training(s) offered to national volunteers. Failure to complete required onboarding and training could result in the withholding of a convention allowance or potential removal from position    

  • Required attendance at the Summit for Volunteers (annually)  

  • Per the National Policy Handbook (NPH), all national officers shall pay alumnae dues either to a local alumnae chapter or directly to national headquarters; all national officers are encouraged to make an annual financial contribution and/or planned gift to the Sigma Kappa Foundation, per the NPH 

  • Perform other duties as may be prescribed by the director of programming and training or senior director of programming strategy of Sigma Kappa Sorority 

  • Foster an environment where members are welcomed, valued for who they are, and everyone is treated with respect 

 

Technical/Computer Skills: 

  • Ability to effectively use email and Microsoft Office software programs, including a strong understanding of Microsoft Teams and Zoom 

  • Ability and willingness to effectively use other position-related technology tools 

 

Travel Requirements:   

  • National convention: four days in even years, with travel (volunteers are responsible for paying the registration fee)  

  

Optional Travel:    

  • Summit for Collegiate Leadership: three days annually, including travel (if selected as a facilitator, via the application process)   

 

Time Commitment: 

~2-8 hours per week 

  • Quarterly: Volunteer director calls (one-two hours) and additional team meetings as needed 

  • Ongoing: Regular calls with NHQ staff, volunteer teams and collegiate stakeholders 

  • Peak Time Periods: 

  • Late summer: Officer training content development and review (2-3 weeks) 

  • Late fall: Volunteer appointment process participation (~3 weeks) 

  • Winter: Leadership Development Day planning and execution (~1 month of coordination) 

 

Volunteer Environment: 

  • This position requires working independently as well as part of a team. 

  • This position requires frequent verbal and face-to-face contact with others. Frequent use of a computer, general office equipment and/or personal device (e.g., cell phone, tablet) is necessary. 

  • The position requires appropriate confidentiality and discretion.
