Position Status: Volunteer, two-year appointment
Position Summary: Provides support and oversight of the public relations advisory council (PRAC) and directs the council’s work as it relates to communication, public relations and social media plans, strategies and training in accordance with requests from collegiate chapter officers and their advisors. Works to build relationships with volunteer directors and establish an information stream with collegiate and alumnae chapters. Collaborates with NHQ communication team on projects to promote alumnae engagement in the areas of public relations, marketing and communications including addressing digital and social media needs.
Qualifications:

Initiated member of Sigma Kappa Sorority
-
Experience working with undergraduates and/or alumnae and/or life skills that relate to the position summary
-
Prior experience and/or familiarity with Sigma Kappa’s visual identity and brand specifically and public relations, marketing and communication in general
-
Volunteer experience with a collegiate management perspective is beneficial
-
Ability to view public relations from a perspective to ensure that the organization fosters an environment where members are welcomed, valued for who they are, and treated with respect
-
Strong written and oral communication skills, customer service skills, organizational and delegation skills, time and project management, attention to detail and interpersonal skills
Responsibilities:
-
Works with the public relations advisory council (PRAC) to ensure collegiate chapters’ public relations, marketing (i.e., recruitment, philanthropy events, etc.) and communication needs are met, and brand standards are maintained

Tracks chapter requests for trainings, strategies and plans using the PR Request Form, including assigning work and tracking results
-
Follows up with collegiate chapter officers and advisors after trainings and strategic sessions to obtain feedback and assess effectiveness

Supports NHQ communication staff in implementation of public relations and marketing plans for the Sorority
-
Fosters positive public relations efforts for both collegiate and alumnae chapters

Provides education on chapter and individual branding and shares chapter highlights and successes on their own social media platforms

Collaborates with collegiate management team to assist chapters and officers when social media issues arise
-
Encourages posting values-based content throughout the organization and maintains a folder of strong social and digital media examples to share with chapters upon request (bid day, Walk to End Alzheimer’s, Founders’ Day, , recruitment, etc.)

Works with PR advisory council to create a process to conduct website and social media audits twice a year for collegiate and alumnae chapters

Oversees the Sigma Kappa Public Relations Advisor Facebook group and posts resources, ideas and recognition

Promotes the ongoing development of a service rapport with collegiate chapters, local and national volunteers, headquarters staff and all members of the Sorority

Maintains positive public relations within the Sorority, among all Sorority entities, in contact with other NPC, NPHC, MGC and NIC groups, university officials, vendors and others

Follows national policies and procedures and abide by the local house/suite rules of each chapter during visits
-
Promotes a sense of national pride in Sigma Kappa and a strong sisterhood in all chapters visited
-
Attends national convention (even years) and participates in other training(s) offered to national volunteers. Failure to complete required onboarding and training could result in the withholding of a convention allowance or potential removal from position

Required attendance at the Summit for Volunteers (annually)

Per the National Policy Handbook (NPH), all national officers shall pay alumnae dues either to a local alumnae chapter or directly to national headquarters
-
All national officers are encouraged to make an annual financial contribution and/or planned gift to the Sigma Kappa Foundation, per the National Policy Handbook

Perform other duties as may be prescribed by the senior director of communication of Sigma Kappa Sorority

Technical/Computer Skills:
-
Ability to effectively use email and Microsoft Office software programs, including a strong understanding of Microsoft Teams and Zoom
-
Ability and willingness to effectively use other position-related technology tools
Travel Requirements:
-
Travel to facilitate in-person chapter trainings on subject matter area, as needed/requested
-
National convention: four days in even years, with travel (volunteers are responsible for paying the registration fee)
Optional Travel:
-
Summit for Collegiate Leadership: three days annually, including travel (if selected as a facilitator, via the application process)
Time Commitment:
~15-20 hours per week

Participate in quarterly volunteer director calls (one-two hours) and other calls as needed
-
Participate in regular calls with supervisor and/or national headquarters staff
-
Participate in regular calls with volunteer team
Volunteer Environment:

This position requires working independently as well as part of a team

This position requires frequent verbal and face-to-face contact with others. Frequent use of a computer, general office equipment, and/or personal device (e.g., cell phone, tablet) is necessary
