Title: Sorority Housing Coordinator 

Supervisor’s Title: Director of Sorority Housing 

Position Status: Volunteer, two-year appointment 

Position Summary: Works under the direction of the director of Sorority housing and the senior director of operational strategy (SDOS) to assure that all corporations who are Sorority supervised are properly managed and in good standing in their state. 

Qualifications:  

  • Initiated member of Sigma Kappa Sorority 

  • Familiarity with Sigma Kappa housing policies and procedures 

  • Prior experience with sorority housing 

  • Strong written and oral communication skills; customer service skills; organizational and delegation skills, attention to detail; presentation and facilitation skills; strong interpersonal/relationship building skills 

Responsibilities: 

  • Serves as the liaison between the local corporation boards which are Sorority supervised, the collegiate chapter financial advisors (FINAs) and the national organization 

  • Ensures that assigned corporations are following all national housing policies and procedures  

  • Collaborates with the corporation board with input from the FINA, to set housing-related payments (housing/furnishing fees, parlor fees) 

  • Ensures chapter remains competitive in fees and charges, as well as meets requirements outlined in National Policy Handbook 

  • Approves plans and proposals for projects, new construction, additions, or remodeling that involve expenditures of more than $3,500 according to the National Policy Handbook 

  • Monitors and tracks the annual Keys to Housing Excellence assessment of Sorority-supervised corporation boards 

  • Monitors the insurance coverage on the property, contents and business income and suggests adjustments to local corporation board when necessary 

  • Assists the corporation board with recruiting new members for the board 

  • Assists the corporation board and FINA with questions of safety and security 

  • Provides training for corporation boards  

  • Reviews all visit reports, by staff or volunteers, and responds and follows up as necessary

  • Maintains and develops materials and procedure files as appropriate to the position  

  • Maintains high professional and personal standards  

  • Promotes the ongoing development of a service rapport with collegiate chapters, local and national volunteers, headquarters staff and all members of the Sorority  

  • Maintains positive public relations within the Sorority, among all Sorority entities, in contact with other NPC, NPHC, MGC and NIC groups, university officials, vendors and others  

  • Follows national policies and procedures and abide by the local house/suite rules of each chapter during visits  

  • Promotes a sense of national pride in Sigma Kappa and a strong sisterhood in all chapters visited  

  • Attends national convention (even years) and the Summit for Volunteers (annually) as well as participates in other training(s) offered to national volunteers. Failure to complete required onboarding and training could result in the withholding of a convention allowance (even years) or potential removal from position    

  • Per the National Policy Handbook (NPH), all national officers shall pay alumnae dues either to a local alumnae chapter or directly to national headquarters All national officers are encouraged to make an annual financial contribution and/or planned gift to the Sigma Kappa Foundation, Inc., per the National Policy Handbook  

  • Perform other duties as may be prescribed by the director of sorority housing or senior director of operational strategy of Sigma Kappa Sorority  

Technical/Computer Skills:  

  • Ability to effectively use email and Microsoft Office software programs, including a strong understanding of Microsoft Teams and Zoom.  

  • Ability and willingness to effectively use other position-related technology tools   

Travel Requirements:  

  • ~8 days annually, 25% weekdays, 75% weekends 

  • National convention: four days in even years, with travel (volunteers are responsible for paying convention registration fee) 

  • Corporation board training (as necessary) 

Optional Travel:   

  • Summit for Collegiate Leadership: three days annually, including travel (if selected as a facilitator, via the application process) 

Time Commitment:  

  • 5-10 hours per week when not travelling 

  • Participate in quarterly volunteer director calls (~ one hour) and other calls as needed 

  • Participate in regular calls with supervisor and/or national headquarters staff  

  • Participate in regular calls with volunteer team 

Volunteer Environment:   

  • This position requires working independently as well as part of a team.   

  • This position requires frequent verbal and face-to-face contact with others. Frequent use of a computer, general office equipment, and/or personal device (e.g., cell phone, tablet) is necessary.
