Title: Personnel Committee
Supervisor Title: Personnel Committee Co-Chairs
Position Status: Volunteer, two-year appointment (through January 2028)
Position Summary: The personnel committee is responsible for leading the application review, interviewing, and candidate selection processes for all vacant Sorority national volunteer positions. The committee will make recommendations on volunteer appointments to national council.
Qualifications
- Initiated member of Sigma Kappa Sorority
- Education or work experience in human resources or DEIA leadership, nonprofit management, or prior volunteer leadership experience
- Experience reviewing applications and conducting interviews
- Strong written and oral communication skills, customer service skills, organizational skills, time and project management, attention to detail, and interpersonal/relationship building skills
- Applicants may not serve as a Sigma Kappa volunteer in any capacity (national, local, Sorority, Foundation or National Housing Corporation)
- If applicant is serving in a volunteer role and is appointed to the committee, the member must step down from their current role for the duration of this appointment
Responsibilities
- Review applications received for vacant volunteer positions, as needed
- Serve on the interview panel for volunteer vacancy roles
- Facilitate discussion on candidate selection with the interview panel and make recommendations for volunteer appointments to national council
- Maintain confidentiality and discretion on the candidates and the selection process
- Meet with volunteer directors to review their midyear check-in feedback
- Complete other HR-related directives as needed

- Promotes the ongoing development of a service rapport with collegiate chapters, local and national volunteers, headquarters staff and all members of the Sorority
- Maintains positive public relations within the Sorority, among all Sorority entities, in contact with other NPC, NPHC, MGC and NIC groups, university officials, vendors and others
- Follows national policies and procedures and abide by the local house/suite rules of each chapter during visits
- Promotes a sense of national pride in Sigma Kappa
- Required attendance at the Summit for Volunteers (annually). Failure to complete required onboarding and training could result in the withholding of a convention allowance (even years) or potential removal from position
- Per the National Policy Handbook (NPH), all national officers shall pay alumnae dues either to a local alumnae chapter or directly to national headquarters
- All national officers are encouraged to make an annual financial contribution and/or planned gift to the Sigma Kappa Foundation per the National Policy Handbook
- Perform other duties as may be prescribed by the chairs of the personnel committee or director of volunteer engagement of Sigma Kappa Sorority
- Foster an environment where members are welcomed, valued for who they are, and everyone is treated with respect
Technical/Computer Skills:
- Ability to effectively use email and Microsoft Office software programs, including a strong understanding of Microsoft Teams and Zoom.
- Ability and willingness to effectively learn and use other position-related technology tools
- SigmaKappa.org email and associated Microsoft tool use is required.
Travel Requirements:
- None required as a committee member
Time Commitment
- August - December: 5-10 hours per week
- From August through December, the Personnel Committee conducts the annual volunteer appointment cycle process. During this time frame, committee members will be expected to review applications, conduct virtual interviews, and collaborate with Subject Matter Experts to make volunteer placement recommendations to national council as needed.
- Scheduling is flexible based on availability.
- January - July: 5-10 hours per month
- During the appointment cycle “off season”, the Personnell Committee places volunteer vacancies, and completes ad hoc HR-related projects such as selecting special committees and overseeing the volunteer midyear check-in process.
- Participate in committee calls (1-2 per month)
- All meetings and interviews are conducted virtually via Microsoft Teams.
Volunteer Environment:
- This position requires working independently as well as part of a team.
- This position requires frequent verbal and face-to-face contact with others. Frequent use of a computer, general office equipment, and/or personal device (e.g., cell phone, tablet) is necessary.
