Title: Director of Sorority Housing  

Staff Manager: Senior Director of Operational Strategy (DSH) 

Position Status: Volunteer, two-year appointment (SDOS) 

  

Position Summary: Works with Sorority-supervised corporations, those who do not participate in the Sigma Kappa National Housing Corporation (NHC) to ensure they are properly managed and in good standing in their state.  

  

Qualifications  

  • Bachelor's degree required  

  • Initiated member of Sigma Kappa Sorority  

  • Experience with housing and familiarity with Sigma Kappa housing policies and procedures  

  • Strong written and oral communication skills; customer service skills; organizational and delegation skills, attention to detail; presentation and facilitation skills; strong interpersonal/relationship building skills  

  

Responsibilities  

  • Oversees the Sorority housing coordinators and Sorority-supervised corporation boards   

  • Oversees and trains Sorority housing coordinators and ensures roles and responsibilities are completed  

  • Assesses all Sorority-supervised corporation boards for compliance with national policies on an annual basis, documenting those requiring action plans, tracking progress and making recommendations for insurance assessments for those not in compliance  

  • Monitors progress of action plans for critical chapters with progress report to the director of collegiate chapter management (DCCM) and director of collegiate management (DCM)  

  • Reviews all visit reports, by staff or volunteers, to identify and follow up on any information impacting Sorority-supervised corporation boards    

  • Participates in the training of Sorority supervised corporation board members 

  • Coordinates with the Sorority housing coordinators to provide annual updates on the Sorority-supervised corporation boards to the senior director of operational strategy (SDOS)  

  • Coordinates sharing of information with National Housing Corporation (NHC) to all corporation boards  

  • Conducts the annual Keys to Housing Excellence assessment of Sorority-supervised corporation boards

  • Maintains and develops materials and procedure files as appropriate to the position   

  • Maintains high professional and personal standards   

  • Promotes the ongoing development of a service rapport with collegiate chapters, local and national volunteers, headquarters staff and all members of the Sorority   

  • Maintains positive public relations within the Sorority, among all Sorority entities, in contact with other NPC, NPHC, MGC and NIC groups, university officials, vendors and others   

  • Follows national policies and procedures and abides by the local house/suite rules of each chapter during visits   

  • Promotes a sense of national pride in Sigma Kappa and a strong sisterhood in all chapters visited 

  • Attends national convention (even years) and participates in other training(s) offered to national volunteers. Failure to complete required onboarding and training could result in the withholding of a convention allowance or potential removal from position    

  • Required attendance at the Summit for Volunteers (annually)  

  • Per the National Policy Handbook (NPH), all national officers shall pay alumnae dues either to a local alumnae chapter or directly to national headquarters  

  • All national officers are encouraged to make an annual financial contribution and/or planned gift to the Sigma Kappa Foundation, per the NPH  

  • Perform other duties as may be prescribed by the senior director of operational strategy of Sigma Kappa Sorority   

  • Foster an environment where members are welcomed, valued for who they are, and everyone is treated with respect.  

 

Technical/Computer Skills

  • Ability to effectively use email and Microsoft Office software programs, including a strong understanding of Microsoft Teams and Zoom.   

  • Ability and willingness to effectively use other position-related technology tools    

  

Travel Requirements  

  • ~10 days annually, 25% weekdays, 75% weekends  

  • National convention: four days in even years, with travel (responsible for paying convention registration fee)  

  • NHC Housing Conference, three days in odd years, including travel  

  • MJ Insurance Housing Forum, three days annually, including travel 

 

Optional Travel

  • Summit for Collegiate Leadership: three days annually, including travel (if selected as a facilitator, via the application process)  

  • MJ Insurance Housing Conference  

 

Time Commitment  

  • 15-20 hours per week when not traveling  

  • Participate in quarterly volunteer director calls (one-two hours) and other calls as needed  

  • Participate in regular calls with national headquarters staff   

  • Participate in regular calls with volunteer team  

  • Participate in conferences or seminars related to housing issues  

 

Volunteer Environment:    

  • This position requires working independently as well as part of a team.    

  • This position requires frequent verbal and face-to-face contact with others. Frequent use of a computer, general office equipment, and/or personal device (e.g., cell phone, tablet) is necessary.
